The Nawi – Afrifem Macroeconomics Collective (Nawi Collective) is a Pan-African Feminist initiative launched in 2020,

The Nawi Collective is building a community in Africa of individuals and organisations working on influencing, analysing, deconstructing and reconstructing macroeconomic policies, narratives and understanding of the same through an intersectional Pan African feminist lens.

Tax

Tax is an essential resource mobilization tool for governments enabling them to provide key public services and goods. The fight for tax justice from a Pan African feminist perspective tackles the fight to curb Illicit Financial Flows as well as influencing national tax systems to ensure tax is not a contributing factor to exacerbating existing inequalities for women and girls.

Trade

It is now commonly accepted that trade is not gender neutral and trade policies affect men and women very differently. African governments have implemented numerous trade liberalization policies that have had significant impacts on women. This area of work explores a Pan African Feminist analysis of policies from international trade agreements to the Africa Continental Free Trade Agreement and more.

Africa has seen a worrying rise in debt levels resulting in stunted socio - economic development and as Africa navigates out of the economic impact of COVID-19, debt continues to be a central issue. This area of work highlights the work of African feminists that continue to contribute to shaping a narrative that is pushing back on neo-colonial causes of debt and policies to remedy the same.
